Cowbells rang out throughout the SailGP weekend in Geneva. From the shores of Lake Geneva all the way to the Swiss F50, their sound became the soundtrack to an event filled with emotion for the Explora Journeys Swiss SailGP Team. Racing at home always means something more, especially on a lake many of the athletes have known since childhood. And their ability to read these waters would prove decisive during a weekend marked by exceptionally light winds.
Saturday could hardly have started in a more difficult way. A missed start in the opening race and, with so little wind, virtually no chance to recover. The response, however, was immediate.
In the following race, Sébastien Schneiter and his crew started strongly, took control in the opening seconds and never gave up the lead. It was a convincing victory and the team’s first race win in front of the Swiss crowd. A third place in the following race then kept their chances of reaching the Final alive.

On Sunday, the margin for error became even smaller. Just one point separated the Swiss from New Zealand’s Black Foils and, after a fifth place in the first race, everything came down to the next one.
At the leeward gate, New Zealand chose the left side of the course. The Swiss headed offshore instead, where they expected to find more breeze. It was a decision based on their knowledge of Lake Geneva, and the wind rewarded them. The team moved into the lead and crossed the finish line 18.5 seconds ahead.
It was exactly the race they needed to win.
With 14 points and second place in their group, the Explora Journeys Swiss SailGP Team secured its third Final of the season, following Halifax and Portsmouth. The team went on to finish fourth in the decisive race.
A first overall Sail Grand Prix victory is still to come, but Geneva confirmed the team’s growing consistency at the front of the fleet.
