Making Waves tells the stories of athletes and sea women who are reshaping the narrative, putting resilience, instinct, and clarity of vision at the forefront. A project created to raise awareness by giving space to women whose uniqueness has the power to inspire.
We chose to tell these stories through video and portraits, which were crafted by Martina Orsini, photographer, sailor, and one of the protagonists herself.
Her gaze is deep, honest, and authentic. Her images don’t build characters — they tell human stories. They capture technical movement, moments of stillness, focused expressions, but above all, they reveal the soul of women portrayed.
The protagonists of Making Waves are women who face the sea every day with skill, drive, and passion.
There’s the crew of Magique et Terrible, the only all-female team in the RS21 class: young, tight-knit and ambitious, they represent the future of competitive sailing.
There’s The Famous Project, one of the boldest challenges ever launched by an all-women team: a sporting and cultural initiative about possibility, teamwork, and collective ambition.
Making Waves gives space to all of them — and to all the women who live sailing and breathe the sea every day. And this is only the beginning: new stories and voices will continue to join the journey.

It’s an open-ended story — not looking for closure, but for new directions. A way to say: we are here. And there will be more of us. Because every story is a door that opens possibilities for someone else. And every wave of change that starts here can travel far.
A sailor by choice and vocation. Born in Forlì, she first discovered sailing at age 6 in Cervia and since then has built a path made of movement, commitment, and constant growth. From the 470 class and Olympic campaigns to leading roles on monotypes, she’s now found her perfect dimension in the RS21 project. She leads the all-female crew Magique et Terrible with grit and grace, proving that 'always believe it, never give up' is more than a motto—it’s a course to follow.
Sailor and student, Malika sees sailing as a life school: it was on the boat that she discovered who she is, building confidence and self-awareness. Between races, studying, and shared dreams, she’s a voice and force in the Magique et Terrible team, carrying a message of sisterhood, drive, and change. Because every wave can become a symbol of freedom.
Sailor and coach, Chiara Degli Angioli turned a difficult moment at sea into a new way of experiencing sailing—with balance, care, and awareness. Today she’s a leader both on and off the boat, blending technical skill with listening and determination. Her strength? Turning vulnerability into a starting point.
Ocean skipper and founder of The Famous Project, Alexia Barrier is leading the first all-female attempt at the Jules Verne Trophy: sailing around the world non-stop in under 40 days. After 18 Atlantic crossings and the 2020 Vendée Globe, she now sails for science and the environment, merging performance and awareness. Her course is clear: to prove that an all-female crew can rewrite history.
The first woman in the world to circumnavigate the globe in both directions, even “against the wind.” She has competed in two editions of the Volvo Ocean Race, one as skipper. Dee Caffari has turned extreme sailing into a way to inspire and include. Today, she is a key figure in The Famous Project, bringing leadership, experience, and vision to a team that dreams of breaking every limit.
Three Olympic Games and a silver medal in Beijing 2008 in the Yngling class. Annemieke Bes is a seasoned sailor and a do-er—someone who gets things done. She also competed in the Volvo Ocean Race with Team SCA, the all-female crew. Today she is a cornerstone of The Famous Project, combining strength and intellect at sea.

She’s overcome bias and underestimation, bringing her luminous, authentic, powerful vision to the forefront. Because every shot is a declaration: 'I’m here, and I know where I’m going.'
