FOIL AERO TOP Aerodynamic foil top

Foil Aero Top is the most advanced garment we have ever developed for foiling. Created through close collaboration with Olympic athletes Tita–Banti, it uses wind-tunnel-tested aerodynamic fabrics to reduce turbulence and remain stable on the body when speeds become truly high.

THERMO-CONTROL

1/6

Thermo-control is the ability to maintain a constant temperature despite of environmental changing conditions. The high thermoregulation effect means you can reduce the number of garments to wear, in turn assuring greater comfort.

FAQ

Who is this item designed for?

The Foil Aero Top is designed for sailors who race on high-speed foiling boats, where the body is heavily exposed to airflow. It is ideal for Olympic foiling classes, wingfoil and kitefoil, and for those looking for a garment that actively helps reduce aerodynamic drag while also providing sun protection.

What conditions is this item designed for?

The top uses an aerodynamic fabric with a ribbed surface structure, tested in a wind tunnel and designed to reduce airflow turbulence. In the retail version, compression has been calibrated to ensure high performance while maintaining a good level of comfort.

What fabric is this item made of?

Unlike a traditional lycra, the Foil Aero Top P does not lose its structure when wet and does not flap in the wind. It remains stable on the body even at high speeds, reducing drag and fatigue while sailing. The silicone print creates grip for the trapeze and stabilises the garment during use. It also allows, if needed, a controlled cut at navel height through a dedicated silicone circle, enabling the trapeze hook to pass through without damaging the fabric – a solution developed for sailors who often wear the trapeze under the top.

What advantages does this item add?

The Foil Aero Top features an aerodynamic fabric, ergonomic construction, flat seams for comfort, a silicone print for trapeze grip, Anti-UV protection and a performance-oriented slim fit. It can be worn like a lycra, directly on the skin or over other layers, such as over a life jacket. It is extremely elastic and designed to adapt to different setups and configurations.

Description

Foil Aero Top was created by looking at where sailing is heading today. In foiling classes, when the boat flies and speeds exceed 40 knots, the body becomes part of the aerodynamic system just as much as the hull and sails. In this context, a traditional lycra is no longer enough. This top is the result of a research project developed together with Olympic Nacra 17 foil athletes Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti. The goal was clear: to create a garment that remains stable even when wet, does not flap in the wind, and helps reduce turbulence around the body. Not just a protective layer, but an active element of performance. At the core of the project is an aerodynamic fabric with a micro-channeled surface. This structure, tested in a wind tunnel, works on airflow by reducing turbulence and lowering drag, following principles already used in disciplines where every fraction of a second matters, such as Olympic track cycling. Bringing this technology into foiling sailing means responding to the evolution of boats that now sail consistently at speeds that were unthinkable just a few years ago. Foil Aero Top does not rely on a single material, but on a combination of fabrics with different weights and structures, all with a high elastomer content. This allows for compression, stability and freedom of movement exactly where it is needed. In the commercial version, the compression level has been calibrated to make the garment usable beyond pure competition, without losing effectiveness: even when wet, the fabric does not relax and continues to perform on the body. The construction is ergonomic and performance-oriented, with a slim fit and flat triple-needle seams to reduce friction and enhance comfort. A silicone print integrated on the torso serves a concrete purpose: it creates grip for the trapeze and stabilizes the garment during use. On the front, there is also a dedicated silicone area that allows, if necessary, a controlled cut for the trapeze hook to pass through without tearing the fabric. The UPF 35+ anti-UV protection completes a garment that currently has no direct equivalent on the market. Foil Aero Top is not a volume product, but a concentration of innovation, designed for those who sail at the limit and seek the highest level of technology available in foiling sailing.
