Switch, the one-design foil where everything depends on the helm

Foiling, speed, control and pure feel. Switch is a singlehanded one-design class where every detail depends on the helm’s hands and sensations, with SLAM alongside the class and Mattia Cesana.

background

Switch, foiling in a one-design format

There is a class that is growing rapidly because it brings together two very powerful worlds: the purity of one-design racing and the intensity of foiling. It is called Switch, a single-handed foiling dinghy designed to deliver speed, control and accessibility in a format that is technical, yet easy to understand.

Full carbon, a lightweight platform, three rigs and take-off in little wind: a boat built to fly. But above all, built to create a class.

Here, though, the point is not just speed. Because it is a singlehanded boat, everything depends on the helm. No crew, no shared roles, no possibility of dividing interpretations or sensations. The difference comes from balance, setup, pressure, ride-height control and precision in manoeuvres.

A New Class, but Already a Solid One: The 2026 Events

Switch is a high-performance one-design class, 3.9 metres long and 2.25 metres wide, with a platform weighing around 25 kg, three rigs and take-off from as little as 6 knots of wind.

The 2026 calendar of the Italian class includes events in Caprera, Campione, Torbole, Dongo and Cagliari, with the Italian Championship in Punta Ala, scheduled from 9 to 11 October.

The season has already got underway on the race course between Caprera and the Gulf of Arzachena, where the first Grand Prix of the year was held from 20 to 22 March. It was an important opening event, both for the technical level and for the international participation: around thirty helms from several European countries, as well as Canada, were on the water.

In Caprera, 10 races were completed over three days in variable conditions. From a sporting point of view, the event was won in the 7.5 class by Antonia Schulteis, ahead of Camilla Svensson and Maria Vittoria Marchesini. In the 8.5 class, Matteo Paulon came out on top, with Max Antoniazzi second and Checco Bruni, Luna Rossa’s helmsman, third. Bruni also won the Master category, while the Under 21 title went to Andreas Svensson.

A Sailing Experience Built on Feel

Switch is appealing because it is fast, but above all because it is direct. It keeps the logic of one-design racing and brings it into the foiling world, where everything becomes more sensitive and more immediate.

There is no filter. There is no room to hide. There is a helm, a boat and a line to find. And that is exactly where the SLAM project finds its place: in a kind of sailing that looks ahead, built on innovation, precision and pure feel.
