Retracing the achievements of Tommaso Chieffi, it is impossible not to mention the two victories of the Equipe class 470 trophy in 1982/1983, awarded to the best-ranked sailor in the world in their respective Olympic classes. Tommaso participated in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles (class 470) with his brother Enrico, ranking in fifth place, while in 1985 he won the 470 World Championship, again in crew with his brother. His professional career as a helmsman began with the Italian Team at the Louis Vuitton Cup in Fremantle. In 2005/06 he won the Volvo Ocean Race as Abn Amro's inshore tactician. He is 27 times world champion and 5 times European champion.
