“A group formed of the best players does not necessarily make the best team”. Marcello Lippi
If the sky was blue over Berlin on 9 July 2006, it was down to him, Marcello Lippi, the new face of Slam. A distinguished, calm and inflexible coach, some would say harsh even, but capable of rejoicing in important moments and bringing joy to millions of people at the same time. 2006 was, for him, just one of many moments in a highly successful career, full of victories and triumphs.
There have been triumphs off the pitch as well. One of the non-footballing successes of Lippi is the “Insuperabili” Non-profit Organisation, of which the former national coach is the honorary president. The association was founded in Turin in 2012 by Davide Leonardi and Ezio Grossi, bank employees at the time, and works to encourage integration of young people with disabilities through sport.
The testimonials of the association include well-known faces from the sporting world, such as Giorgio Chiellini and Gigi Buffon, and, after just a few years, it is now present in thirteen Italian cities, including Milan, Florence, Rome, Siracusa and Genoa.
The encounter between Insuperabili and Slam, in Genoa, marked the beginning of an important partnership. From this year, Slam is supporting the Non-profit Organisation with a range of activities in the sea, to teach youngsters with disabilities on their first experience in a boat and others who already know the basics.
Sailing does, in fact, offer the chance use the therapeutic qualities of the sea and teamwork to boost integration. It is the commitment with the Insuperabili association and its love of the sea that has led Slam to choose Marcello Lippi as the new face of the brand. It is the face of someone who, in sport and in life, continues to win with passion, style and elegance.
