Foiling Week
Slam continues to move with the winds of change, sponsoring the landmark event of foiling, the newest innovation in the world of sailing. Foiling Week takes place from 6th to 9th July at Malcesine on the shores of Lake Garda. The Italian event is the first stage in the Foiling Week Global Tour, which will make four stops at international foiling venues: Garda, Punta del Este, Miami and Sydney. Foiling Week is the only global event dedicated to foil enthusiasts, designers and builders. Each day’s programme will begin with morning forums and continue with high-adrenalin competitions in the afternoons: regattas for one-design classes, fun downwind regatta, and a permanent plot for testing boats.
The Foil is a way to fly over water and be faster, even in low wind conditions
The rediscovery of a winning technology
The rediscovery of a winning technology
Foil technology dates back to the 1950s, but it is only thanks to great media coverage of the super-fast catamarans in the America’s Cup that it has advanced dramatically to become a real phenomenon. The hydrofoil is a wing-shaped fin mounted under the hull that allows the boat to literally rise out of the water and fly over the surface. If friction between the hull and the water can be eliminated, boats can reach up to four times the wind speed, guaranteeing spectacular performances.
During the Malcesine Foiling Week, Slam will trial its new experimental neoprene line, which will form the core of the Foil Skiff Line 18.
